Diabetes is a chronic disease which is characterized by increased blood sugar (glucose). Glucose is the main source of energy in the body. If the body can not properly use the sugar, its level in the blood rises above normal (hyperglycemia).

Treatment for type 1 diabetes

Currently the only treatment for patients with type 1 diabetes is a life-long insulin replacement.

Treatment of type 2 diabetes

Treatment of type 2 diabetes has always begun with the prescription of the diet and exercises.

In those cases where this proves to be ineffective, patients are prescribes tablets hypoglycemic agents. With the passage of time (5-10 years) treatment of the tablets antidiabetic drugs becomes ineffective, and then patient starts using insulin therapy.

The indications for the use of insulin in type 2 diabetes are: a temporary increase of insulin need, a sharp decrease of insulin secretion.
