FAQ

Amlodipine is a prescription-only medicine when bought from local pharmacies in the United Kingdom. However, our store policy allows you to order it without a prescription and have it sent by mail. A clinician should assess whether amlodipine is appropriate before treatment is started.

Take unused or expired amlodipine tablets to a pharmacy that accepts unwanted medicines for safe disposal. Do not share them with anyone else or dispose of them in household wastewater.

The exact manufacturer is not confirmed in advance and may vary with available supply. Check the manufacturer's name, active ingredient, strength, dosage form, batch number and expiry date on the received package before use.

Amlodipine is a calcium-channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure and angina. It may also be used for certain forms of coronary artery disease. It can be prescribed on its own or with other heart or blood-pressure medicines.

Amlodipine tablets are taken by mouth, usually once daily, at about the same time each day. They may be taken with or without food and should be swallowed with water. The prescribed strength and dose depend on the condition being treated and the individual patient.

Description

Why Is Norvasc?

Amlodipine is the active ingredient in the medication Norvasc. It has been used to treat cardiovascular issues like hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pain brought on by a disruption in the heart's blood supply).

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. It obstructs calcium channels, which are unique openings on the surface of cells that allow calcium particles to enter normally. Contractility results from calcium entering the cells that make up the blood vessel walls' muscles. Amlodipine lowers blood pressure in patients with hypertension. It facilitates the easier pumping of blood throughout the body in patients with cardiac difficulties by blocking the influx of calcium into the cells, inhibiting the blood vessel walls from contracting.

The European Medicines Agency states that all EU nations have used Norvasc to treat angina and hypertension.
This medication may be prescribed by your doctor for different reasons. If you would like additional information on this medication, contact your doctor.

Until you know how this drug affects you, take caution when operating machinery, driving, climbing, or performing other risky actions. Avoid consuming alcohol. Before giving Norvasc to a child, always contact a doctor.

Consult a physician if any of the following apply to you or have previously affected you: allergy to foods, medications, colors, preservatives, or other substances; hepatic illness; heart failure with congestion.

norvasc-5mg

Oral administration of Norvasc is advised, either with or without food and a glass of water. If you also take antacids, waiting at least two hours between taking these medications is preferable. To achieve better results, take the medication daily.

Any medication used in excess might have adverse effects on your health. Get in touch with your healthcare provider right away if you suspect an overdose.

When taken in excess, this medication may result in fainting, extreme dizziness, and rapid heartbeat.

Take the dosage as soon as possible if you forget to take it. Never take two doses at once if your next dose is almost due. Take one dosage at a time.

Norvasc may interact with the following medicines: intravenous (IV) calcium and high blood pressure drugs (diuretics, beta-blockers, and "water pills"), additional drugs for chest pain, such as nitroglycerin.

Don't take it if you are attempting to get pregnant, nursing a baby, or are pregnant. Steer clear of abrupt standing or sitting up, mainly if you are an elderly patient. Your doctor could suggest getting tested for certain conditions (such as renal function or potassium blood level) to track your progress and look for any negative effects.

Regularly check the blood pressure and pulse rate. When taking medication, avoid treating colds, coughs, or pain on your own without first talking to your doctor. Take caution-some substances have the potential to raise blood pressure. Discuss any beneficial lifestyle modifications you may have with your doctor.

Customer questions

Asked by Daisy J, Leicester, United Kingdom

I'm Hannah in Leicester and my Norvasc order now says dispatched. Does that mean it will arrive tomorrow?

Answered by Support team

Not necessarily. Dispatch means the order has left for delivery, while the delivery date depends on the delivery service's progress.

Asked by Holly M, Belfast, United Kingdom

I live in Belfast. Can I check whether amlodipine can be delivered to my address before I pay?

Answered by Support team

Yes. Enter your Belfast delivery address and postcode during checkout to see the delivery options available for your destination before completing payment.

Asked by Alexander S, Nottingham, United Kingdom

I take simvastatin for cholesterol as well as amlodipine for my blood pressure. Is it safe to take them together?

Answered by Support team
Medical reviewed by Mildred Torres

They can be prescribed together, but amlodipine can increase simvastatin exposure and raise the risk of statin-related muscle side effects. In general, simvastatin should not exceed 20 mg daily when used with amlodipine; confirm your current doses with the prescriber or pharmacist.
