FAQ

In Australia, amlodipine is a Schedule 4 prescription-only medicine, so a prescription is required when buying it from a local pharmacy. Our store policy allows you to place an order without a prescription and have the tablets sent by mail.

Amlodipine can cause dizziness, headache, tiredness or nausea, particularly when treatment starts or the dose is increased. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy, faint, drowsy or otherwise unwell.

The manufacturer for a repeat order cannot be guaranteed and may differ between supplies. Check the package label for the active ingredient, strength, tablet form, manufacturer, batch number and expiry date before taking the tablets.

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure and angina, including chronic stable angina. It may be used on its own or together with other blood-pressure or anti-anginal medicines.

Amlodipine tablets are taken by mouth once daily, with or without food, preferably at about the same time each day. The usual adult starting dose is 5 mg daily, but the appropriate dose can range from 2.5 mg to 10 mg daily and should follow the prescriber's directions.

Description

Why Is Norvasc?

Amlodipine is the active ingredient in the medication Norvasc. It has been used to treat cardiovascular issues like hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pain brought on by a disruption in the heart's blood supply).

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. It obstructs calcium channels, which are unique openings on the surface of cells that allow calcium particles to enter normally. Contractility results from calcium entering the cells that make up the blood vessel walls' muscles. Amlodipine lowers blood pressure in patients with hypertension. It facilitates the easier pumping of blood throughout the body in patients with cardiac difficulties by blocking the influx of calcium into the cells, inhibiting the blood vessel walls from contracting.

The European Medicines Agency states that all EU nations have used Norvasc to treat angina and hypertension.
This medication may be prescribed by your doctor for different reasons. If you would like additional information on this medication, contact your doctor.

Until you know how this drug affects you, take caution when operating machinery, driving, climbing, or performing other risky actions. Avoid consuming alcohol. Before giving Norvasc to a child, always contact a doctor.

Consult a physician if any of the following apply to you or have previously affected you: allergy to foods, medications, colors, preservatives, or other substances; hepatic illness; heart failure with congestion.

norvasc-5mg

Oral administration of Norvasc is advised, either with or without food and a glass of water. If you also take antacids, waiting at least two hours between taking these medications is preferable. To achieve better results, take the medication daily.

Any medication used in excess might have adverse effects on your health. Get in touch with your healthcare provider right away if you suspect an overdose.

When taken in excess, this medication may result in fainting, extreme dizziness, and rapid heartbeat.

Take the dosage as soon as possible if you forget to take it. Never take two doses at once if your next dose is almost due. Take one dosage at a time.

Norvasc may interact with the following medicines: intravenous (IV) calcium and high blood pressure drugs (diuretics, beta-blockers, and "water pills"), additional drugs for chest pain, such as nitroglycerin.

Give your doctor a complete list of all the medications, herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, and over-the-counter medications you take. Additionally, let them know whether you smoke, take illegal substances, or drink alcohol. Certain things might interfere with your medication.

There could be other negative effects; this is not a complete list. Tell your doctors about all the side effects you notice.

Warning: Unless advised by your physician, avoid using potassium supplements or salt replacements while taking Norvasc. Don't take it if you are attempting to get pregnant, nursing a baby, or are pregnant. Steer clear of abrupt standing or sitting up, mainly if you are an elderly patient. Your doctor could suggest getting tested for certain conditions (such as renal function or potassium blood level) to track your progress and look for any negative effects.

Regularly check the blood pressure and pulse rate. When taking medication, avoid treating colds, coughs, or pain on your own without first talking to your doctor. Take caution-some substances have the potential to raise blood pressure. Discuss any beneficial lifestyle modifications you may have with your doctor.

Norvasc must be kept in a firmly covered container at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius (59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit). It must be kept out of light, heat, and moisture and away from animals and children's reach.

Customer questions

Asked by William C, Launceston, Australia

I'm Priya and I want to make sure I can read the instructions before ordering. Will the amlodipine package include an English leaflet?

Answered by Support team

We cannot confirm the leaflet language before supply, as it may vary by the package received. Check the package label and enclosed information when it arrives; if anything is unclear, use verified Australian medicine information or ask a pharmacist.

Asked by Jessica M, Sydney, Australia

I'm in Sydney and am concerned about warm weather during delivery. Are amlodipine tablets suitable for ordinary transport?

Answered by Support team

Tablets can normally travel in the mail when appropriately packed and protected from moisture and light. Store them at 20°C to 25°C after arrival, keep them in a tightly closed, light-resistant container, and check that the packaging and tablets are intact before use.

Asked by Ethan W, Newcastle, Australia

I'm Daniel and take amlodipine for blood pressure. Can I also use sildenafil occasionally?

Answered by Support team
Medical reviewed by John Buducci

Amlodipine and sildenafil can both lower blood pressure, so taking them together may increase the chance of dizziness, light-headedness or fainting, especially when standing up. A prescriber or pharmacist should check whether the combination is suitable for you, particularly if you have low blood pressure or take other heart or blood-pressure medicines.
