FAQ

A prescription is required to obtain paroxetine extended-release tablets from local pharmacies in the United States. Our store policy allows you to place an order without submitting a prescription, and the medicine can be sent by mail.

Contact the prescriber managing your treatment promptly to review the benefits and risks. Paroxetine is generally avoided during pregnancy because first-trimester exposure has been associated with an increased risk of fetal heart defects, but it should not be stopped suddenly because withdrawal symptoms and relapse can occur.

The active ingredient in this extended-release tablet is paroxetine. A generic described as paroxetine extended-release contains the same active ingredient, but the manufacturer, tablet appearance, packaging, and inactive ingredients can differ from a brand-name product.

Take this paroxetine extended-release tablet by mouth once daily, usually in the morning, exactly as prescribed. It may be taken with or without food; swallow the tablet whole and do not split, crush, or chew it, because doing so can disrupt the extended-release design.

Common effects include nausea, sleepiness or insomnia, dizziness, headache, sweating, dry mouth, constipation or diarrhea, and sexual side effects. Seek urgent help for symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, serotonin syndrome, seizures, unusual bleeding, or new or worsening suicidal thoughts or major behavior changes.

Description

Paxil CR is a well-known selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant medication. It reduces symptoms of major depression, fibromyalgia, PTSD, anxiety disorders, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following medications, which are referred to as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI): phenelzine (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), linezolid (Zyvox), or selegiline (Emsam, Zelapar, Eldepryl).

Which Medical Issues or Symptoms Should I Notify a Doctor About?

Consult a physician if any of the following apply to you or have previously affected you:

  1. Seizures, heart attacks, cardiac problems, strokes, and epilepsy during electroconvulsive therapy;
  2. Glaucoma;
  3. Suicidal ideas or actions;
  4. Manic-depressive bipolar disorder;
  5. Liver or kidney illness;
  6. Pregnancy, nursing, or intending to become pregnant;
  7. An unusual or adverse reaction to paroxetine, other medications, foods, preservatives, or dyes;
  8. Stomach or intestinal bleeding.

Forms of Paxil Cr and Dosage

Paxil Cr is available in liquid or tablet form for oral consumption.

Dosage Strength Formulation Typical Dosage Range
12.5 mg Extended-Release Tablets 12.5 mg to 62.5 mg per day
25 mg Extended-Release Tablets 12.5 mg to 62.5 mg per day
37.5 mg Extended-Release Tablets 12.5 mg to 62.5 mg per day

It is often taken in the morning or evening once a day. Take this medication with some beverages. When using Paxil CR, drinking multiple glasses of water daily is critical to saving your kidneys. It is acceptable to take it with or without food. Taking the medication with meals is preferable to help your body absorb it and ease stomach discomfort.

You should swallow the whole pill. Never eat, break, or crush it. To distribute the medicine equally, shake the suspension thoroughly before using it. Use a measuring spoon or medicine cup with a designated marking to ensure you take the right amount of medicine.

Paxil CR dosage varies according to patients and the conditions being treated. It goes without saying that you should speak with your doctor before using this drug and follow your doctor's directions.

I am starting Paxil CR and have work happy hours occasionally. Is it okay to drink alcohol?

Alcohol should be avoided while taking paroxetine. It can worsen sleepiness, dizziness, impaired judgment, and other central nervous system effects, especially when treatment is new or the dose has changed.
