FAQ

A prescription is required to buy paroxetine from local pharmacies in Canada. Our store policy allows you to place an order without a prescription and have it sent by mail. This ordering policy is separate from the medicine's prescription status in Canada.

Alcohol is best avoided while taking Paxil CR. It can worsen drowsiness, dizziness, impaired concentration, and other nervous-system effects, particularly when treatment is new or the dose has changed.

The exact manufacturer of the supplied product is not confirmed in advance. Check the manufacturer name on the received package label, along with the active ingredient, strength, dosage form, lot number, and expiry date before use.

Paroxetine extended-release tablets are taken by mouth, usually once daily as directed. They may be taken with or without food and should be swallowed whole; do not crush, chew, or split them, as this can interfere with the extended-release design. The prescribed strength and dose depend on the condition being treated and the individual patient.

Paxil CR should generally be avoided during pregnancy unless the expected benefit outweighs the potential fetal risk. Paroxetine use early in pregnancy has been associated with an increased risk of congenital heart defects, and late-pregnancy exposure may cause newborn complications. Paroxetine passes into breast milk, so breastfeeding use requires an individual assessment of the parent's treatment needs and potential effects on the infant.

Description

Paxil CR is a well-known selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant medication. It reduces symptoms of major depression, fibromyalgia, PTSD, anxiety disorders, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following medications, which are referred to as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI): phenelzine (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), linezolid (Zyvox), or selegiline (Emsam, Zelapar, Eldepryl).

Which Medical Issues or Symptoms Should I Notify a Doctor About?

Consult a physician if any of the following apply to you or have previously affected you:

  1. Seizures, heart attacks, cardiac problems, strokes, and epilepsy during electroconvulsive therapy;
  2. Glaucoma;
  3. Suicidal ideas or actions;
  4. Manic-depressive bipolar disorder;
  5. Liver or kidney illness;
  6. Pregnancy, nursing, or intending to become pregnant;
  7. An unusual or adverse reaction to paroxetine, other medications, foods, preservatives, or dyes;
  8. Stomach or intestinal bleeding.

Forms of Paxil Cr and Dosage

Paxil Cr is available in liquid or tablet form for oral consumption.

Dosage Strength Formulation Typical Dosage Range
12.5 mg Extended-Release Tablets 12.5 mg to 62.5 mg per day
25 mg Extended-Release Tablets 12.5 mg to 62.5 mg per day
37.5 mg Extended-Release Tablets 12.5 mg to 62.5 mg per day

It is often taken in the morning or evening once a day. Take this medication with some beverages. When using Paxil CR, drinking multiple glasses of water daily is critical to saving your kidneys. It is acceptable to take it with or without food. Taking the medication with meals is preferable to help your body absorb it and ease stomach discomfort.

You should swallow the whole pill. Never eat, break, or crush it. To distribute the medicine equally, shake the suspension thoroughly before using it. Use a measuring spoon or medicine cup with a designated marking to ensure you take the right amount of medicine.

Paxil CR dosage varies according to patients and the conditions being treated. It goes without saying that you should speak with your doctor before using this drug and follow your doctor's directions.

Customer questions

Asked by Leah Morgan, Oshawa, Canada

I found what appears to be the same paroxetine generic at another online store for nearly half the price. Why should I order from MedicalBrandNames instead?

Answered by Support team

We stand behind the quality of the generic medicines we offer. We cannot verify what another seller supplies, how it is sourced or handled, or whether a similar-looking lower-priced offer is truly equivalent in manufacturer, origin, or quality. The choice is yours, but it is worth deciding whether the savings are worth accepting that unknown risk.

Asked by Daniel Fournier, Saskatoon, Canada

I started Paxil CR last week and have noticed mild shaking in my hands. Can paroxetine cause tremors?

Answered by Support team
Medical reviewed by Mildred Torres

Tremor or shaking can occur with paroxetine, especially early in treatment, and may improve as your body adjusts. Seek urgent medical help if shaking occurs with fever, agitation, confusion, severe sweating, diarrhoea, muscle stiffness, or rapid heartbeat, as these can be signs of serotonin syndrome. Persistent or troublesome tremor should be assessed by the prescriber.
