FAQ

A prescription is required to buy losartan-hydrochlorothiazide from local US pharmacies. Under our store policy, you may place an order without submitting a prescription, and the medicine can be sent by mail. A clinician should still determine whether this treatment and strength are appropriate for you.

Take the tablet on the schedule prescribed for you, at about the same time each day. Because hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic and may increase urination, morning dosing is often more convenient. Check with the prescriber before making a substantial change to a regular dosing schedule.

The exact manufacturer and regulatory status of the package supplied cannot be confirmed in advance from the available product information. Hyzaar is an FDA-approved prescription combination of losartan potassium and hydrochlorothiazide in the United States, but that does not establish the approval status, manufacturer, or equivalence of a particular supplied package. Check the received label for the manufacturer and product details.

Store the film-coated tablets at 77°F; excursions from 59°F to 86°F are permitted. Keep the container tightly closed and protect it from light. Keep the medicine out of reach of children and do not use tablets that appear damaged or have been stored under unknown conditions.

Avoid losartan-hydrochlorothiazide during pregnancy. Losartan can cause serious fetal harm or death, particularly after the first trimester, and treatment should be discontinued promptly if pregnancy is detected under the direction of the prescriber. Breastfeeding is also not recommended during treatment because hydrochlorothiazide passes into breast milk and may reduce milk production, while information on losartan in human milk is limited.

Possible effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, low blood pressure, and increased urination. The hydrochlorothiazide component can affect potassium, sodium, kidney function, uric acid, and blood glucose. Seek urgent care for facial or throat swelling, fainting, severe weakness, breathing problems, or sudden eye pain or vision changes.

Description

Introduction

The medication Hyzaar is used to treat hypertension. This medication is a mixture of two drugs: a thiazide "water pill"/diuretic and an angiotensin receptor blocker. Blood vessels enlarge and relax when using Hyzaar. By increasing the volume of urine produced, the thiazide diuretic reduces the amount of extra water and salt in your body. Maintaining blood pressure control can help prevent kidney issues, heart attacks, and strokes.

Your doctor may prescribe this medication for other reasons. If you would like additional information on this medication, contact your doctor.

Even if your condition seems to be improving, don't stop taking Hyzaar earlier than your doctor has instructed. If you stop taking the drug too soon, it could make things worse. Until you know how this drug affects you, take caution when operating machinery, driving, climbing, or performing other risky actions. Avoid consuming alcohol. Never provide Hyzaar to a child without first consulting a physician.

How Should I Use Hyzaar?

Note: Don't give this medication to anyone else. Please take it as prescribed by your doctor, neither more nor less.

Hyzaar is administered orally with food, milk, or an antacid to avoid stomach upset. Unless your doctor instructs you otherwise, you may also take it with a full glass of water. Avoid lying down for half an hour after taking this medication. Administer the dosages regularly.

Excessive or Missed Dose

Any medication used in excess might have adverse effects on your health. Get in touch with your healthcare provider right away if you suspect an overdose.

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as possible. Never take two doses at once if your next dose is almost due. Take one dosage at a time.

Which Medical Issues or Symptoms Should I Notify a Doctor About Before Using Hyzaar?

Consult a physician if any of the following apply to you or have previously affected you:

  • allergies or asthma;
  • lupus;
  • an allergy to sulfa medications;
  • liver or kidney problems;
  • gout;
  • low or high blood potassium levels;
  • congestive cardiac dysfunction;
  • diabetes.

Adverse Effects

If you have any of the following severe side effects, get in touch with your doctor right away:

  • allergy symptoms such as a skin rash, lips, tongue, and facial swelling, hives, itching, and breathing difficulties;
  • reduced or absent urination, as opposed to increasing urination;
  • quick increase in weight;
  • fainting and swelling;
  • pale complexion, dizziness, pounding or rapid heartbeat, and elevated heart rate;
  • confusion;
  • sleepiness, easy bruising or bleeding, dry mouth, increased thirst, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), convulsions, or a restless feeling.

Less severe adverse effects:

  • skin rash;
  • sore throat;
  • dry cough;
  • backache;
  • nausea and dizziness;
  • stuffy or runny nose.

Other adverse effects could occur; this is not an exhaustive list. Tell your doctors about all the side effects you encounter.

Warning

Try not to get too hot or dehydrated when exercising in hot weather. Speak with your doctor to determine how much liquids you should consume daily. Unless advised otherwise by your doctor, stay away from potassium supplements and salt replacements while undergoing therapy. If taken during the latter six months of pregnancy, this medication has the potential to damage or even kill the fetus. See your doctor right away if you become pregnant or suspect you might be pregnant. Avoid abrupt standing or sitting up, particularly if you are an elderly patient. Regularly check your blood pressure. Tests for your renal function can also be necessary.

Customer questions

Asked by Danielle Morgan, Jacksonville, United States

I receive all my mail at a PO Box in Jacksonville. Can I use that address when ordering these tablets?

Answered by Support team

Please enter your PO Box at checkout and use the address options shown there. We cannot confirm PO Box eligibility in advance, because acceptance depends on the shipping option available for the order.

Asked by Ethan Ramirez, Houston, United States

Before I order, how can I tell how many tablets I am selecting?

Answered by Support team

Check the package-quantity selector on the product page before adding the item to your cart. The listed options are 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 270, and 360 tablets; availability can vary by selected option.

Asked by Monica Patel, San Diego, United States

My doctor calls this Hyzaar. Will that exact brand name be printed on the package I receive?

Answered by Support team

The exact trade name on the supplied package cannot be guaranteed; it may show a generic or manufacturer name instead. Verify the active ingredient, losartan-hydrochlorothiazide, the prescribed strength, and that it is an oral film-coated tablet on the package label.

Asked by Jordan Lee, Los Angeles, United States

I am in Los Angeles, where packages can sit in the sun. How is this type of tablet protected during normal transportation?

Answered by Support team

Film-coated tablets can normally travel when kept in their labeled container and appropriate outer protective packaging. Keep the container closed and protected from light after arrival, and check that the package and tablets are intact. The actual transport temperature and exposure time for a shipment are not known, so do not use a package that appears compromised until it is checked.

Asked by Christopher Nguyen, Philadelphia, United States

I drive for work and may be starting this medicine soon. Is it safe to drive after the first dose?

Answered by Support team
Medical reviewed by Wendy Hayes

Losartan-hydrochlorothiazide can cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when treatment starts or the dose changes. See how it affects you before driving or operating equipment, and avoid driving if you feel dizzy, faint, or unusually tired.
