FAQ

A prescription is required to obtain hydroxyzine tablets from local pharmacies in Canada. Our store policy allows customers to place an order without a prescription and have the tablets sent by mail. A healthcare professional should still confirm that hydroxyzine is appropriate for you.

Store the tablets at 20°C to 25°C; brief temperature excursions between 15°C and 30°C are permitted. Keep the container tightly closed and protected from moisture and light. If the temperature was outside this range, the exposure was prolonged, or the tablets or packaging look altered, have the product checked before using it.

The authorization status of the exact product supplied cannot be confirmed in advance because the manufacturer and package details may vary. In Canada, the current authorization, DIN, manufacturer, and market status for a specific product can be checked in Health Canada's Drug Product Database using the information on its package label.

Avoid alcohol while taking hydroxyzine. Both alcohol and hydroxyzine can cause drowsiness, dizziness, impaired coordination, and slowed reactions, and using them together can intensify these effects.

Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine with sedating and anti-anxiety effects. It is used for symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension and for itching associated with allergic conditions, including hives and some skin conditions. It may also be used before certain medical or dental procedures and, in some situations, for nausea and vomiting other than pregnancy-related nausea.

Hydroxyzine is contraindicated during pregnancy, particularly early pregnancy, because safe use has not been established and animal studies identified developmental risks. It is also contraindicated while breastfeeding because it can pass into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. Anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding, or becomes pregnant during treatment needs prompt advice from their prescriber.

Description

Usage

Atarax is used before and after general anesthesia to fight worry and angst in patients and has a calming effect. The medication can also be used to treat allergic reactions, such as hives, rash, itching, and other allergic dermatologic symptoms, to specific allergens like poison ivy. For further medical reasons, your physician or another healthcare professional may prescribe Atarax.

How to Take and Dosage

Dosage Form Dosage Strength Usual Adult Dose
Tablet 10 mg 25-100 mg/day
Tablet 25 mg 25-100 mg/day
Syrup 10 mg/5 mL 10-50 mg 4 times a day

Patients should take Atarax in accordance with the dosage regimen that a physician has prescribed.
Atarax can be taken either alone or with food. Take the tablet and enough water in your mouth at the same time.
The entire tablet of Atarax is intended to be swallowed. Chewing the tablet before swallowing will not cause it to split into smaller pieces.

Do not deviate from your doctor's advised dosage regimen. Take the medication at the same time every day to prevent missing doses.

If you regularly take the tablets and forget to take them, take the missed dose of Atarax as soon as you remember it. If your scheduled dose is about to expire, take one dose of Atarax. Do not take two doses simultaneously to catch up on the dosing schedule.

If you need more advice about Atarax, don't hesitate to ask your doctor or any other medical professional.

Class of Drug and Mechanism

Atarax is a medication that blocks histamine. By impacting the patient's brain, the medication helps to alleviate feelings of worry and grief. Additionally, the medication can be used to alleviate allergy symptoms and stop vomiting brought on by mechanically induced nausea.

How to Keep the Medicine

Atarax is to be kept in a cool, dry location with a temperature range of 59 59 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit (15 to 25 degrees Celsius). Refrain from giving the drug to household pets or youngsters.

Cautions and Warnings

Patients who are not supposed to use Atarax include those who have previously experienced an adverse reaction to any of the ingredients in Atarax, who are taking GHB-based medications at the moment, and pregnant women in the first trimester.

Should any of these apply to you, please speak with your physician or any other qualified healthcare provider.

Important: Using Atarax may make it difficult to carry out regular everyday tasks, such as driving. Don't use Atarax to perform jobs you don't feel comfortable doing.

Alcohol beverages and Atarax should not be combined. Additionally, use extra caution when using Atarax with other medications that compound the effects of sedatives and sleep aids. Consult your physician or other healthcare professional for more information on medications that make you drowsy.

Individuals over 65 may be more vulnerable to the medication's side effects.

It is not advised to use Atarax on infants. The manufacturer is unaware of any studies on its effects on newborns.

It is strictly forbidden for women to use Atarax if they are in the early stages of pregnancy.

Customer questions

Asked by Danielle, London (ON), Canada

My hydroxyzine package arrived in London, Ontario, after several very cold days. What should I check before I take the tablets?

Answered by Support team

Check that the container is intact, dry, and tightly closed, and that the tablets have no unusual colour, odour, cracking, or other visible change. Keep the package and compare its labelled storage directions with what is known about the exposure; because the actual temperature and duration are unknown, do not use tablets that appear compromised until they have been checked.

Asked by Matthew, St. Johns, Canada

I live in St. John's. Can I use my postal code to see whether hydroxyzine tablets can be shipped to my address before I order?

Answered by Support team

Yes. Enter your postal code during checkout to check whether shipping is currently available for your address. Availability can depend on the destination, so the checkout result is the appropriate confirmation.

Asked by Kendra, Yellowknife, Canada

I am in Yellowknife and want to order hydroxyzine tablets. How can I find out whether you can send them to my address?

Answered by Support team

Enter your Yellowknife address and postal code at checkout to check current shipping availability. We cannot confirm every remote route in advance, so checkout provides the most up-to-date result for your destination.

Asked by Nathan, Barrie, Canada

My doctor has prescribed lorazepam as needed for anxiety, and I am considering hydroxyzine tablets for itching. Can I take them on the same day?

Answered by Support team
Medical reviewed by John Buducci

Hydroxyzine and lorazepam can both depress the central nervous system, increasing drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, and impaired coordination. The combination should be reviewed by the prescriber or pharmacist who knows your doses and other medicines; avoid alcohol and do not drive if you take either medicine.
