FAQ
A prescription is required to buy cyclobenzaprine from local pharmacies in Australia, where it is a Schedule 4 prescription-only medicine. Our store policy allows orders for this product without a prescription, and the tablets can be sent by mail.
Do not use a tablet if its blister is torn, punctured, open or otherwise unable to protect it. Keep the packaging and contact customer service within 7 days of delivery; a replacement or full refund can be arranged.
Not necessarily. Tablet colour, shape, size, markings and packaging can differ between manufacturers, and the exact appearance of the supplied product is not guaranteed. The important identifiers are cyclobenzaprine as the active ingredient, the 15 mg strength and the tablet dosage form.
A different appearance alone does not mean the medicine is incorrect. Check the package label for the active ingredient, 15 mg strength, tablet form, manufacturer, lot number and expiry date, and compare any tablet imprint if present. Do not take the tablets until any difference in ingredient, strength, dosage form, imprint, seal or condition has been clarified.
Store the tablets at 25°C; excursions from 15°C to 30°C are permitted. Keep them dry, protected in their original packaging and out of the reach of children.
Cyclobenzaprine is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant used as short-term adjunct treatment for muscle spasm associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions, alongside rest and physical therapy. Treatment is generally limited to 2-3 weeks. It is not effective for spasticity caused by brain or spinal cord disease.
Take cyclobenzaprine 15 mg tablets by mouth exactly as directed for the prescribed treatment plan, swallowing the tablet with water. They may generally be taken with or without food, but do not alter the tablet by crushing, chewing or splitting it unless the supplied label specifically permits this. The appropriate dose and schedule depend on the individual and the formulation.
During pregnancy, cyclobenzaprine should be used only when clearly needed after an individual prescriber assessment, as adequate controlled studies in pregnant women are lacking. During breastfeeding, use caution: small amounts may pass into milk, and an infant should be monitored for unusual sleepiness, poor feeding or poor weight gain, particularly if newborn or premature.
Description
Flexeril is a brand of cyclobenzaprine, a skeletal muscle relaxant taken orally. We supply 15 mg tablets in several pack sizes. Cyclobenzaprine is used for short-term relief of acute, painful muscle spasm associated with musculoskeletal conditions, usually alongside rest, stretching, or physiotherapy.
Product summary
Cyclobenzaprine acts mainly within the central nervous system and reduces excessive muscle activity rather than working directly on skeletal muscle. It helps relieve spasm and associated discomfort but does not treat the underlying injury or condition. Some effects may become noticeable after the first doses, although the response, degree of drowsiness, and duration of relief vary between people and formulations.
Essential facts
Treatment is generally limited to two to three weeks because evidence supporting longer use is limited. For conventional immediate-release cyclobenzaprine, established adult dosing commonly starts at 5 mg three times daily and may increase to 10 mg three times daily when required. Extended-release cyclobenzaprine uses a different once-daily regimen. These regimens are not interchangeable, so follow the directions supplied for this 15 mg tablet rather than applying instructions intended for another formulation. Cyclobenzaprine can generally be taken with or without food.
Practical use
Common adverse effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue, and blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how cyclobenzaprine affects you. Alcohol, opioids, sleeping medicines, sedating antihistamines, and other central nervous system depressants can increase impairment. Cyclobenzaprine must not be used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping one. It is also contraindicated during acute recovery after a heart attack and in people with arrhythmias, heart block, heart failure, or hyperthyroidism.
Serotonergic medicines, including some antidepressants and tramadol, can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Seek urgent medical help for agitation, confusion, fever, sweating, tremor, muscle rigidity, or a rapid heartbeat. Extra caution may be needed with glaucoma, urinary retention, liver impairment, or medicines with anticholinergic effects. Older adults can be more susceptible to sedation, confusion, falls, and other anticholinergic adverse effects.

Important notes
Cyclobenzaprine is classified as a Schedule 4 prescription-only medicine in Australia and requires a prescription from an authorised prescriber under Australian rules. Separately, our ordering policy does not require a prescription for us to accept an order, although customers should confirm that treatment is suitable with a health professional. Flexeril 15 mg pills are not identified as an included product in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods, so the status of the exact product, strength, and dosage form should be confirmed before Australian supply. Cyclobenzaprine is not subsidised through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
Use during pregnancy should be discussed with a prescriber because adequate controlled studies in pregnant women are unavailable. Cyclobenzaprine can pass into breast milk in small amounts; if it is needed while breastfeeding, monitor the infant for unusual drowsiness, poor feeding, and inadequate weight gain. Safety and effectiveness of the 15 mg product have not been established in children. Store at 25°C; excursions from 15°C to 30°C are permitted, and keep the tablets protected from inappropriate heat and moisture.
Our pharmacist-supported team is available 24/7 by email, online chat, or phone for questions about the medicine or your order. For a different mechanism, we also stock Tizanidine, an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist that can also reduce muscle spasm. You can browse our Muscle Relaxants range to compare other relevant options.
My cyclobenzaprine tablets have arrived in Bendigo. Where do I find the lot number and expiry date?

Q
Asked by Oscar G, Coffs Harbour, Australia
I take phenelzine for depression and have a painful neck spasm. Can I also take cyclobenzaprine 15 mg tablets?
No. Cyclobenzaprine must not be taken with an MAO inhibitor such as phenelzine, or within 14 days of stopping one, because serious and potentially life-threatening reactions can occur. A prescriber needs to choose a different option for the muscle spasm.
