Practical use

Common adverse effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue, and blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how cyclobenzaprine affects you. Alcohol, opioids, sleeping medicines, sedating antihistamines, and other central nervous system depressants can increase impairment. Cyclobenzaprine must not be used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping one. It is also contraindicated during acute recovery after a heart attack and in people with arrhythmias, heart block, heart failure, or hyperthyroidism.

Serotonergic medicines, including some antidepressants and tramadol, can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Seek urgent medical help for agitation, confusion, fever, sweating, tremor, muscle rigidity, or a rapid heartbeat. Extra caution may be needed with glaucoma, urinary retention, liver impairment, or medicines with anticholinergic effects. Older adults can be more susceptible to sedation, confusion, falls, and other anticholinergic adverse effects.
