FAQ

In the United States, ethambutol is a prescription medicine and requires a prescription when purchased from a local pharmacy. Under our store policy, you may place an order without a prescription, and the medicine can be sent by mail.

No. Ethambutol is used as part of a combination tuberculosis treatment plan, and stopping early can allow tuberculosis to persist or become harder to treat. Continue it for the prescribed duration unless the clinician managing the tuberculosis regimen tells you to change it.

Ethambutol hydrochloride tablets are FDA-regulated prescription medicines in the United States. However, the regulatory status of the exact catalog product, its listed strengths, and its manufacturer cannot be confirmed without the identifying information on the supplied package.

Myambutol contains ethambutol, an antitubercular medicine used to treat active pulmonary tuberculosis. It is used together with other tuberculosis medicines, commonly including isoniazid, rifampin, and pyrazinamide; it should not be used alone for tuberculosis.

During pregnancy, ethambutol should be used only when a clinician determines that the expected benefit of treating tuberculosis justifies potential fetal risk. Ethambutol passes into breast milk, so breastfeeding requires caution and an individualized discussion of the mother's treatment needs and the infant's monitoring.

Description

Myambutol

Dosage Form

Capsules, tablets, coated tablets.

How Does the Drug Work?

TB drugs: They get into actively growing mycobacterial cells, inhibiting the synthesis of RNA, affecting cell metabolism, and causing cessation of reproduction and death of bacteria. They are active just against actively dividing cells. They suppress the growth and multiplication of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is resistant to ethionamide, Pasco, kanamycin, isoniazid, and streptomycin. When monotherapy, the resistance of mycobacteria develops quite fast.

Indications

Tuberculosis (all forms).

When conducting long-term therapy, one must regularly monitor the function of the organ of vision, a picture of the peripheral blood, and the functional state of the liver and kidneys. During the treatment period, you must pay attention while driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially hazardous activities requiring high attention concentration and quickness of psychomotor reactions.

Interaction

Where to Keep the Drug?

To keep in a dark place.

In treating tuberculosis, Myambutol is an essential tool since it successfully inhibits bacterial growth while having tolerable side effects. Nonetheless, it is crucial to keep a watchful eye out for any potential risks. Following thorough treatment programs is critical to achieving the best possible results in the ongoing fight against tuberculosis.

Warning: Before starting to take the drug, you need to consult your doctor.

I have been taking ethambutol with my other TB medicines and have started having trouble telling red from green. What should I do?

Color-vision changes can be a sign of ethambutol-related optic nerve toxicity. Stop taking ethambutol and contact the clinician managing your TB treatment promptly for an urgent visual assessment; do not restart it unless they tell you to.
