Pharmacological Effects:

Inderal La is a beta-blocker, acting as on beta so on beta2-adrenergic receptors (indiscriminate). By decreasing the impact of the sympathetic impulses on beta-adrenergic receptors of heart, the medicine reduces the strength and heart rate. It reduces the contractile ability of the myocardium (cardiac muscle) and the magnitude of cardiac output. Myocardial oxygen demand is decreased. Blood pressure decreases under the influence of the medicine. The drug increases the spontaneous and induced uterine contractions. Decreases bleeding during childbirth and in the postoperative period.

When do I need to take the drug?

The drug is prescribed for the treatment of ischemic heart disease, cardiac arrhythmia, as well as some forms of hypertension (persistent increase in blood pressure). In people with coronary heart disease the drug reduces the frequency of angina attacks, increases exercise tolerance, reduces the need for nitroglycerine. Like antiarrhythmics, the medicine is taken in sinus and paroxysmal tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), arrhythmia, fibrilloflutter.

Inderal La is also recommended the use in sympathoadrenal crises (quick and sharp rise in blood pressure) in patients with diencephalic syndrome (dysfunction of the medulla oblongata) as well as for the prevention of migraine attacks. The drug slows heart rate and improves the condition of patients with thyrotoxicosis (thyroid disease).

How to take the drug?

Inderal La is prescribed inside (regardless of meal times). Generally begining with doses of 20 mg (0,02 g) 3-4 times a day. With insufficient effects and good tolerance the dose is gradually increased for 40-80 mg / day (at intervals of 3-4 days) to a total dose of 320-480 mg / day (in some cases up to 640 mg) with the appointment of equal doses of 3-4 hours. Generally it is used for a long time (under close medical supervision). Prolonged use of beta-blockers in patients with coronary heart disease should be combined with the appointment of cardiac glycosides.

In obstetric practice the medicine is used for initiation and amplification of labor activity in its primary weakness, and to prevent obstetric complications associated with violations of the contractile ability of the uterus. The drug is prescribed for obstetrics and stimulating labor activity in a dose of 20 mg 4-6 times with intervals of 30 min (80-120 mg / day). In the case of hypoxia (circulatory disorders) of fetal, the dose is reduced.
